Ray Evans departed this life on Monday, April 27,2020 at Herman Memorial Hospital surrounded by family. He was 82 years of age.

Ray was born on May 17, 1937 to Sam and Margaret Evans (who preceded him in death) in Mer Rouge, LA.  He confessed Christ at an early age at the Mt. Olive Baptist Church. He attended and graduated from Union High School in Mer Rouge, LA, he was a member of the basketball and other sport teams.

In 1970 he met Sandra Shaw, who changed his life. They married on March 3, 1973. For 47 years, they had a loving marriage until his death.

To this union two children were born, Tracy Evans of Houston, Texas and Rodney G. Evans (Ashia) of Houston, Texas. Two beautiful grandchildren Khamad M. Evans and Rodney G. Evans Jr.

Ray worked as a Machine Operator and Material Handler for Rheem manufacturing until his retirement.  Ray had an infectious personality; he never met a stranger, and everyone believed they were his best friend.  He was best known for his love of people and cooking.  You could count on his friendly phone calls and he would never pass by your home without stopping by. He cooked countless missed.

 

Preceding him in death were two brothers Mason and Sam Evans, one sister Rosie Lee Evans Hawkins.  He leaves to celebrate his memory two special nieces, Dr. CasSandra Shaw-Saddler (Horace) of Houston, Tx, Janice Toliver (Rodrick) of Houston, Tx, two special nephews, Aundray Andrews, Bastrop, LA. and Gregory Shaw, Houston, Tx. Additional nephews, Wendell, Shaw, David Shaw, Shirly Penson, all of Houston, Tx Michael Smith, Bastrop La.  Additional nieces, Veronis Williams of Houston Tx, Barbara Johnson Houston, Tx, Yvette Shaw-Campbell (Larry) of Humble, Tx  , Michelle Pigeon (Darryl) of Cypress, Tx, Michele Shaw-Lang, Houston, Tx, Tammy Smith, Shreveport, La, and Shawn Shaw-Chance (Rollie), Chesapeake Va. Special Cousins, Carolin Hutchinson, Baton Rouge, La, Bobby Morrison, Houston Tx, Michelle Jones, Houston Tx, Nazie Carr, New Jersey, Minnie Stevens, Detroit Mi, and best friend Nathaniel Thompson.
