Alvin was born to the late Sampson and Lillius Leday, of Ville Platte, LA on June 11, 1951. He was baptized around the age of eleven at Ninth Baptist Church by Reverend G.C. Franklin.
Alvin was blessed with a large and loving family. Alvin married Cuella Smith on June 8, 2018. Alvin helped raise his five children with faith, discipline and the value of hard work. He dedicated his children to God and encouraged them to explore the beauty of the Gospel, service to others and leaving behind a legacy.
Alvin served as a long standing deacon at New Bethel Baptist Church of Cheek, Texas until he accepted his call to preach. He was ordained as a minister in April of 1990, received his Bachelor’s in Theology in July of 1998 and his Master’s in June of 2001. November of 1990, Alvin was called to pastor Evergreen Missionary Baptist Church of Jasper, Texas where he served for 29 years. He loved the people of Evergreen as his family and cherished the many relationships established through the union of his pastoral leadership and the Church. He is dearly missed by his church members, who celebrate the fact that he is at peace with his Creator.
Alvin could pretty much fix anything. If he didn’t, he would send you to the person who could. He worked as a welder and mechanic at Beaumont Frame and Front End Service for 22 years before later opening his own shop where he serviced the vehicles of friends and patrons over many years.
