June 11, 1951 – January 29, 2020

Pastor Alvin Leday Sr., 68, returned to his heavenly home on Jan. 29, 2020. His firm belief in God and devotion to his family supported him through his last days and ultimately gave him peace.

A Wake Service will be held at Evergreen Baptist Church 900 E Houston St, Jasper, TX; on Friday, Feb. 07, 2020 from 6-9PM

Funeral Services will be held on Feb. 08, 2020 at Magnolia Baptist Church 2830 Pine St, Beaumont, TX. Visitation will begin at 11AM until funeral at 1PM. Interment will be in Live Oak Memorial Park Beaumont TX.

Alvin was born to the late Sampson and Lillius Leday, of Ville Platte, LA on June 11, 1951. He was baptized around the age of eleven at Ninth Baptist Church by Reverend G.C. Franklin.

Alvin was blessed with a large and loving family. Alvin married Cuella Smith on June 8, 2018. Alvin helped raise his five children with faith, discipline and the value of hard work. He dedicated his children to God and encouraged them to explore the beauty of the Gospel, service to others and leaving behind a legacy.

Alvin served as a long standing deacon at New Bethel Baptist Church of Cheek, Texas until he accepted his call to preach. He was ordained as a minister in April of 1990, received his Bachelor’s in Theology in July of 1998 and his Master’s in June of 2001. November of 1990, Alvin was called to pastor Evergreen Missionary Baptist Church of Jasper, Texas where he served for 29 years. He loved the people of Evergreen as his family and cherished the many relationships established through the union of his pastoral leadership and the Church. He is dearly missed by his church members, who celebrate the fact that he is at peace with his Creator.

Alvin could pretty much fix anything. If he didn’t, he would send you to the person who could. He worked as a welder and mechanic at Beaumont Frame and Front End Service for 22 years before later opening his own shop where he serviced the vehicles of friends and patrons over many years.

He is preceded in death by his parents: Sampson and Lillius Leday and siblings: Bonnie, Kerney, Calvin, Betty and Mary Lee.

Alvin is survived by his wife, Cuella; his daughters Sharlene Rhone (Albert), Salena Coachman (Michael), Maria Adegbenro (Rodney) and Lillius Leday; his son, Alvin Jr. (Anne);stepchildren Pastor Lionel Elder (DeAnn) and Riki Elder; his grandchildren Jazmon, Nicalus, Christopher, Isabella, and Alvin III; and his sisters, Juanita, Ella, and Anna Belle. He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
