Joycelin Ann Harris Hockless  1948 – 2021

Joycelin Ann Harris Hockless

August 6, 1948 – October 21, 2021

Joycelin Ann Harris Hockless was born August 6, 1948 to Ophelia Moton and the late Henry P. Harris, Sr. in Plaquemine, LA. A retired nurse and master crafter.
Joycelin grew up in Baton Rouge, LA and received her education from Scott Street Elementary, McKinley Middle School, and Louisiana State University high school diploma program. After meeting and falling in love with Henry D. Hockless, Sr., the two of them started a life together and eventually moved to Beaumont, TX in 1981. Joycelin then matriculated at Lamar University where she studied nursing and graduated with a degree in nursing in 1982. Some of her favorite hobbies were crocheting, needlepointing, sewing, gardening, and diy home projects. Joycelin was also very active in the community. She would actively attend P.T.A meetings and was willing to help in any way possible at school organized functions, drives, plays, fundraisers, or wherever she could be the most helpful. She was an avid animal lover and would constantly take in any dog or cat in need. Bold and unapologetic for who she was, Joycelin was a listening ear for many and never shied away from honesty. Joycelin was always up for the challenge to be an impact in everyone’s life and make a change. She will be missed dearly.
Joycelin was preceded in death by her father Henry P. Harris, Sr., two brothers, Henry P. Harris, Jr. and Charles Harris, two daughters, Barbara Harris and Brenda George, life-long friend and companion, Henry D. Hockless, Sr., and maternal grandparents Ophelia Moton Stroder and David Stroder.
Joycelin leaves to cherish her memory, her mother, Ophelia Moton of Baton Rouge, LA, one daughter, Jennifer Hockless of Houston, TX, four sons; David Harris, Sr. (Lovishicka) of Leesburg, FL, Dennis Harris (Michelle) of San Antonio, TX, Henry L.
