Floyd James Carrier entered this world on January 13, 1931 in Nome, Texas. He was born to Mabel Ledet Carrier and Batson Carrier, Sr. both of Church Point, Louisiana. He went home to be with the Lord on February 3, 2021.
A lifelong resident of China Texas, he attended China Negro High School where he met and later married the love of his life, Orelia Wilson Carrier on March 2, 1953. After almost 60 years of marriage, she preceded him in death on January 31, 2013. A veteran of the Korean War, Floyd served in the Army as a paratrooper until completion of his tour of duty and honorable discharge.
Floyd loved building things. He worked as a carpenter and cement mason for most of his adult life. He took pride in his work and got satisfaction knowing that what he built with his hands would be there for future generations to see. He enjoyed passing on his craft to others and never hesitated to give a job to someone in need. He was a loving husband and father.
After health issues forced him to retire, he enjoyed working in his garden, going to the horse races, and spending time with his family and friends. He could often be found riding around the neighborhood on his lawnmower with a smile on his face and a friendly “tall tale” waiting for whomever he met. He always saw the good in life and remained that way until his death.
Floyd was preceded in death by 3 children, (Debra, Cheryl and James Gregory Carrier), his parents, 5 brothers and 4 sisters.
