November 14, 1946 – December 22, 2019

 

Carrie Mae ‘Newt’ Lawson (Spears), age 73, passed away peacefully at San Jacinto Methodist Hospital in Baytown, Texas on December 22, 2019, surrounded by family.

She was born in Mangham, Louisiana on November 14, 1946 to Callie and Arzo Spears.

Carrie accepted Christ and was baptized at an early age. She instilled values and the importance of perseverance to her children. At the age of 40, she obtained her GED and went on to earn her Associates degree in accounting. She maintained a Notary license for several years and held multiple positions in her field, including her time as administrator at the City of Ames and St. Miles Missionary Baptist Church. Carrie worked as a tax preparer, waitress, and cook. She enjoyed serving her church while working with youth and organizing vacation bible school. When not working, Carrie enjoyed reading, sewing, cooking, gardening, traveling and spending time with her grand-kids.

Throughout her life, Carrie held many roles, but her most prized was as wife, mother and granny. She is lovingly remembered by her children Carolyn (Thomas) Dunn of Midland MI; David (Simone) Spears of Liberty TX; Yolanda Spears of Liberty, TX; Linda Spears of Houston, TX; Cassandra (Clarence) Larcarte of Cincinnati, OH; Callie (Kevin) Wade of Ypsilanti, MI.;15 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; her dear sister, Sarah Davis; God-son Ed Lee, Jr. and a host of nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.

Carrie is preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband: Isaac Lawson, Jr., her sister: Dorothy Julius Orebo and grandson Andrew Spears.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 28, 2019, 1:00 p.m. at Berean Tabernacle Baptist Church, TX-146, Liberty, TX, with the viewing being held immediately prior to the service from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The burial will immediately follow at Wells Cemetery.
