Born to the late Howard Burton Sr. and the late Amy Chavis Burton in Moss Hill Texas.  He was educated at the Hardin school.  He attended Prarieview A&M where he played football.  He was drafted into the army in 1953 and served in the Korean war.  He went on to serve a distinguished 23 year career, marked by numerous commendations and promotions.  He served in Thailand, Germany, and Vietnam where he was wounded in action.  
He is preceded in death by his sisters Othetta Burton, Vivian Burton, Emma Jones, Eunice Burrell, and his only brother, Eugene Burton. 
He is survived by his sisters Leola Burrell, Mary Richards, Versie Ford (Warrenton), and a brother in law, Marvin Jones.  His children Howard Burton III (Linda) of Denver, North Carolina, Melinda Andress of the home, Kenneth James Burton (Elaine) of Columbia, South Carolina, Elroy Burton (Pauline) of Freeport, Texas, Leslie Burton of Columbia, South Carolina, Brian Burton of Ft. Worth, Texas, and Brandie Burton of Lipan,Texas. 39 grand children and great children, and a host of nieces and nephews.
