A wake services will be held Friday, Oct. 16, 2020 from 6PM-8PM at Mt. Horeb Church 2214 Campbell Rd, Winnie, TX.

Funeral Service will be Saturday Oct. 17, 2020 at St. Paul Baptist Church 303 1st St. Winnie, TX. Visitation will begin at 9AM until Funeral at 11AM. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery Winnie, TX.

Joseph Rogers was born May 2, 1940 in Church Point, Louisiana to Bennett and Esther Rogers. He was one of 16 children.

He attended Charles Drew High School in Eunice, Louisiana. He also served in the United States Navy.

He was from a God loving and God fearing family. He sang in a gospel quartet, served on usher boards, deacon boards, Sunday school teachers and superintendent. He was licensed to preach the Gospel on June 8, 1975 at Fontaine First Baptist Church by Pastor John Brown. He was later ordained on March 13, 1977 at Goodwill Baptist Church by Pastor Franklin. The Call placed on his life to teach and preach The Word led him all over.

On March 5, 1995, he preached his first sermon at Mount Horeb Missionary Baptist Church in Winnie, Texas. He was later ordained as Pastor on July 16th of the same year. He pastored Mount Horeb for 26 years. He accomplished many things during his time in Winnie. He served as first Black member and President of the Winnie-Stowell Ministers Alliance. He also served on the hospital board and was a member of the Child Protective Service Agency for Chambers County. He also travelled to Haiti doing ministry work.

He lived a full life and was very instrumental in the community. He will be remembered for being firm but fair, quick witted, and loving. He believed that everyone should be given a chance to grow in the Lord.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his aunt who raised him, Louise Caldwell, his brothers: Leroy, Harrison, Will, Abraham, L.J., Leonard, Jacob, John L., and Jefferey. And his sister, Betty Ann Peters.

He leaves to mourn, his wife of 56 years: Hazel Rogers, his daughters: Alicia (Dennis) Qualls and Shawanna Rogers, his grandchildren: Nakita Rogers, Terrance (Karagan) Coleman, Kristian Hayes, Darius and Triniti Coleman. And a great granddaughter, Victoria Price. Brothers: Louis Rogers, Robert (Essie) Rogers, L.C. Rogers. His sister: Estelle Fobbs. As well as God children and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, and his Mount Horeb Church family.
