Kathy Lanell Lee of Silsbee, Texas

June 15, 1957 – June 13, 2020

Kathy Lanell was born Saturday, June 15, 1957 in Silsbee, Texas to Artis and Geneva Hunter, Sr. Surrounded by her beloved family at home, she entered the arms of her Lord and Savior Saturday, June 13, 2020.
Kathy matriculated through Silsbee ISD and graduated from Galileo High School in San Francisco, California Class of 1975. She attended City College of San Francisco from 1975 to 1976 and Grambling State University earning a degree in journalism in 1980.
Kathy accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at First Missionary Baptist Church in Silsbee, Texas. She was an active member of Cathedral of Faith Baptist Church serving as a member of several ministries including adult choir, culinary, lay counseling, mass choir, senior saints, women’s choir, women’s ministry, and women’s Sunday school.
Kathy often shared that when she experienced her first journey of breast cancer, she acquired a burning desire to better serve her African American sisters by providing education regarding breast wellness as well as spiritual and financial assistance. On January 13, 2013 she founded and served as President of Sisters Network, Inc. Golden Triangle. To better serve the needs of our local community, in 2018 she founded and served as President of Sisters 4 Sisters of Southeast Texas. With a passion for service, she was also a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Beaumont Alumnae chapter [Vice President], YWCA, National Council of Negro Women-NCNW, Neches River at Beaumont Top Ladies of Distinction [Advisor], and former member and President of the Top Ladies of Distinction Beaumont Chapter.
Affectionally referred to as an energizer bunny, she enjoyed Cricut crafting, crabbing, crocheting, decorating, event and travel planning, furniture restoration, playing tennis, traveling, and being a supportive MeMaw and Big Ainee.
Kathy was preceded in death by her parents Artis Hunter, Sr., George and Geneva Bailey, as well as her brothers Artis Hunter, Jr., Anthony Hunter, Terry Hunter, and James Hunter. She leaves to remember her loving, generous, kind, sweet spirit, her husband of 25 years Martin Lee, Jr.; four daughters: Adrienne Lee, Melissa Blackman (James), Martina McLin (Michael), and Brandy Lee; two sisters: Pamela Runnels (Tony) and Mona Stimpson; nine grandchildren: Kendrae, Kameron, Kennedy, Mackenzie, Jeremy, Jaylon, Michai, Tristyn, and Makenon; Goddaughter Shayna Milhouse; two aunts, her Grambling girls, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, Sorors, organization affiliates, and friends.
